Hello and welcome to the Bolivar Central High School Band (1965-1975) Reunion site.
In 1965, a 22-year old guy from Brownsville, TN named Joe Sills was hired as band director at Bolivar Central High School. He inherited a dedicated group of high school kids and by 1968 the BCHS Band ranked third in the state. In 1972, Joe accepted the position of band director at Murray, Kentucky High School. Bill Bradford, then director of the Junior High Band, served as band director for three years. During that eleven-year period, an estimated 300 students passed through the band program.
Fast forward, thirty-five years. As more and more band members reconnected on FaceBook, enthusiasm for a band reunion grew. So we are having a reunion and you’re invited. Browse through the website to see what we have planned and who is coming. Anyone who was in the BCHS band program during the years 1965 - 1975 is invited!
Many of the website’s pages are interactive – Alumni Profiles, Donations, Guest Book, Memorials, Photo Albums and RSVP. The more profiles, photos, comments, the better. It is all in the details. Everybody loves to see his or her name in print. If you have a favorite memory of band, use the Post it on the Guestbook page. Did your mom take a photo of you in your uniform? Download it to the Photo Album! Got any slides of band performances, marching or concert? Debbie Carver’s dad did and we got ‘em, although we can’t figure out why most of the slides are of the percussion section. And who knew Marjorie Miller’s dad was such a photog – she has “hundreds of slides” of the 1974/75 marching band performances.
Thanks to Debbie Vincent, Woody Waller & John Bishop, we have a copy of the Bolivar Brass’ Ted Mack Amateur Hour 1967 performance for your viewing enjoyment. And best of all - the Reunion Committee located the long-lost 16mm films of the marching band performances, thank you very much Ruth Robertson Baker. At great expense, the marching band films were transferred to DVD and copies are available for purchase.
Check back often as new photos, profiles and reunion updates are added. Stay in touch!
